Sharing

Now that this class has taken me to the inside cyber google world, I realize how beneficial it can be. Sharing among collegues and fellow teachers/educators out there can only better us as teachers. I thought maybe in this blog I would share a link or two that has been an excellent tool to use in the classroom. this past year I was able to go from classroom to Title I math teacher. This enabled me to learn more about other teacher's classrooms and more resources that are out there. the site, www.ixl.com was one that was used in the 4th grade classrooms and it truly is a great tool for students in math concepts that are aligned to the standards. this site starts from prek-8th grade. Its wonderful! Teachers get graphs and easy to read data that allows the teacher to see what they still struggle on. I am glad to use this blog to share so much more and hopefully learn more thru those who are out there.

  1. I took a look at the website you suggested. Thanks for the tip! I loved the site and immediately marked it in my favorites. I agree that it is nice to have something like this to share ideas with other teachers. I'll have to learn how to add a link so that others can use some of my resources.

  2. You are so right that sharing is important among fellow teachers. You had asked me on my blog if I had any ideas for 5th grade language arts. Writing is such a fun subject to teach. It can also be challenging if your students are not inspired to write. I try to start each year with a theme to establish ourselves as writers. Last year I did "Language Arts Academy" and had each student put on a navy blue blazer, an ascot, and funky glasses if they chose to wear them. I took their pictures and posted them around the bulletin board where their "excellent" writing gets posted and rotated on a weekly basis. It seems like a frivolous thing to do time-wise, but the students love to see their pictures on the wall and depending on the theme you choose can really inspire them to reach for new heights in their writing. The "academy" theme was a fun one. They seemed to expect that more would be expected of them in an "academy" and they took pride in pushing themselves to write not just more, but more creatively.

  3. thanks! that is such a cute idea. I taught reading/writing 4th grade for a year or so, about 5 years ago. I loved teaching writing. It can be frustrating for the kids but in the end their writings have improved tremendously. It helps me as writer myself. thanks for the idea:)
